About the HRC Commission:
The HRC is a thirteen member
diverse commission representing four districts in Gwinnett County. The
membership is comprised of diverseness in race, gender, religion, economic
status, disability status, age, and national origin. The HRC came into
existence as the result of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 “to address the need
for Human Relations in the county and to provide assistance to communities and
persons therein in resolving disputes, disagreements or difficulties
relating to discriminatory practices based on race, color, or national
origin…”
As the
cultural diversity of Gwinnett County’s population increased, the Board of
Commissioners (BOC) created the Gwinnett County Human Relations
Commission. It is the BOC’s charge to the HRC to continue working to
recognize the cultural and other differences that exist among its citizens with
the hope we will learn to respect those differences while seeking ways to work
together as a community of inclusion.
The
purpose of the HRC is to assist in promoting, encouraging and developing equal
treatment and equal opportunity for all residents of the county; and, our
mission: to be a pro-active force to help achieve the highest possible quality
of life for all Gwinnett citizens by fostering an environment that allows
persons equal opportunity and access to education, employment, transportation,
housing, religion, child care, social interaction, and all other aspects of a
quality life.
Congratulations
to all of the nominees!
